'My mates are coming round to the idea of going racing, maybe this would give them that nudge' - racegoers react to ITV series
Who wouldn't want to see what life is like behind the scenes of the sport we love? That was a common theme among the racing public attending the Bob Champion Cancer Trust raceday at Plumpton on Monday when discussing the new primetime evening docuseries set for ITV next summer.
A programme much like Formula 1's successful Drive To Survive, filming for Champions, the working title of the six-part series, is set to start on Boxing Day at Kempton all the way through to the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals in the spring.
The first day of the October half-term meant families were out in full force at the Sussex venue, and Lisa Cook, who was looking after Louis (aged seven) and first-time racegoer Annabelle (two) while husband Paul went to put his shrewd money on King Otis in the third, said the docuseries would be something they could all sit and watch.
