Moscow Flyer's death might have refreshed the memory as to the sheer audacity of his mind-boggling exploits, but his status among the pantheon of all-time great steeplechasers was already firmly established.
In short, there haven't been many better two-mile chasers, and he introduced Jessica Harrington and Barry Geraghty to the big-time. That is quite a legacy.
His roll of honour is simply breathtaking, a triple Cheltenham Festival hero whose 13 Grade 1 victories spanned a six-year period. During a sensational four-year spell between April 2001 and April 2005, the dual Champion Chase winner went unbeaten in 20 completed starts.
