John Gosden: 'Keeping such a huge talent mentally in the zone is the challenge'
Trainer John Gosden described Frankie Dettori as the greatest international jockey in the sport's history as he reflected on his stable jockey's decision to make 2023 his swansong year.
Having first appointed Dettori to his team in 1993, Gosden resurrected the partnership from the start of 2015, since when their association has been graced by a conveyor belt of superstars, including Enable, Golden Horn, Cracksman and Stradivarius.
"We've had an amazing 30-year association and it's essential he goes out at the top," Gosden said. "We always knew he had to do this at some stage. You can't go on forever. Being an elite athlete at any stage is incredibly demanding, let alone when you're 52."
