In terms of racecourse attainment the juvenile class of 2017 are unlikely to be remembered as a golden generation, but that doesn't mean there will not prove to be some serious talents among them.

Champion performers such as Sea The Stars, who achieved a peak juvenile Racing Post Rating of 112, failed to match the best of their generation in their first year racing but went on to be outstanding racehorses.

We need only to look at this year's top-level results for even clearer examples of how horses can progress with age and experience - leading three-year-olds Cracksman (91) and Enable (83) may have prevailed on their only juvenile start but were never tested in a higher grade last year.
