The rain poured down and we all got soaked but it mattered not one jot, for at Ascot this King George day we were in the presence of greatness.

A great filly ridden by a great jockey and prepared by a great trainer won what, in many ways, has always been British Flat racing's greatest contest.

The sport's midsummer showpiece is not quite what it once was, simply because the sport itself has changed so dramatically, yet Enable ensured this was a Qipco-backed King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes that can justifiably be compared to some of its finest runnings.
