There may be better-fancied course winners in the Coral-Eclipse field, but none as prolific as Western Hymn, who bids for a fourth course-and-distance victory having not finished out of the first three in six previous visits to Sandown.

The five-year-old is so consistent that he has been placed lower than fourth only once in 15 starts and in last year's Eclipse he finished third behind his brilliant stablemate Golden Horn.

At Sandown this season he has finished second to both My Dream Boat and Time Test, receiving weight from those rivals on each occasion, and then finished over three lengths off My Dream Boat when they met again at level weights for the Prince of Wales's Stakes.
