Godolphin purchase Frankel colt after Derby-winning owner defaulted on payment
Godolphin have stepped in to purchase a Frankel colt originally sold to Saleh Al Homaizi for two million guineas after the Derby-winning owner defaulted on payment for a string of horses knocked down to him at the sales last year.
The Racing Post can reveal the recent private purchase by Sheikh Mohammed’s organisation, which had been underbidder via champion Flat trainer Charlie Appleby on the colt out of Bold Lass during the Tattersalls Book 1 sale in Newmarket last October.
Bred by Bjorn Nielsen, the colt was the most expensive purchased during the Tattersalls yearling sales by bloodstock agent Richard Knight, who had signed on Al Homaizi’s behalf, with more than 20 other horses being bought by the agent as part of a £20 million spending spree across major sales in the US, Ireland, France and Britain last autumn.
