Brian Sheerin looks at retired jockey Katie Walsh's finest moments
Katie Walsh announced her retirement from the saddle after scoring on the Willie Mullins-trained Antey at Punchestown on Friday. Here we feature her main highlights.
Thousand Stars – Cheltenham 2010 and Auteuil 2014
What a horse Thousand Stars was. What a tune Walsh used to get out of the old boy. The gorgeous grey shot to prominence under Walsh when winning the 2010 County Hurdle at Cheltenham and, fittingly, Walsh was back on board for one of his biggest triumphs as an older horse when landing the 2014 Grade 2 Prix La Barka Hurdle at Auteuil. It’s little wonder she gave Thousand Stars a happy retirement after racing as he was a constant top-grade performer with whom she had a great relationship on the track.
