Five maidens who could make an impact in their Classic year
Alghabrah
Trainer: Kevin Prendergast
Form: 2
A half-sister to last year's Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Awtaad, who Prendergast also trained, Alghabrah shaped with bundles of promise on debut. She took a bit longer than winner Contingent to get organised but then stayed on nicely and the front pair were well clear. She looks exciting.
Latrobe
Joseph O'Brien
2
Latrobe made his debut on the same card as Alghabrah at Leopardstown last month and, having fallen out of the stalls, he then made up ground round the outside of the field throughout. He gave willing chase to winner James Cook, and the front two distanced themselves from the rest of the field. He has Derby and Irish Derby entries, and the way he stayed on offered encouragement he will cope with middle distances at three.
Lubinka
Peter Chapple-Hyam
236
Well-regarded by her trainer, Lubinka has shown a good level of form, having finished second to subsequent May Hill runner-up Dark Rose Angel on debut. She was then third in an Ascot maiden before outrunning her odds in the Fillies' Mile when sixth. She was beaten just over six lengths by Laurens, and did well trying to come from off the pace. There is plenty of stamina on her dam's side and she should go on to better things.
