I like Galvin for the race despite the fact he will have to carry top weight if he runs. The Gold Cup is one of the better trials for the Grand National and, if Galvin runs well at Cheltenham, connections will find it hard to resist the temptation of rolling the dice at Aintree.

Along with Galvin, Gordon Elliott has an enviable hand. Joint top-weight Conflated won't run, but dual winner Tiger Roll looks fairly treated off 161.

But it's the mare Mount Ida who stands out. She proved her stamina when winning the Kim Muir last season and has taken her form to a new level this term.
