Dartmouth stands in a position that was hoped for, if not seriously entertained, before his season began when he attempts to deliver for the Queen a success she last experienced 62 years ago.

Since Aureole took the prize in 1954 the royal silks have seen action only eight further times in the race named after the Queen's parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and her last runners were Dunfermline and Sea Boat in 1978.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Dartmouth was contesting handicaps this time last year but earned a step up to Group 1 level after winning the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.
