It started with a bang and ended in a whimper but what came in between was marvellous. It was wet but it was marvellous.

With due respect to Carlisle, Redcar and Leicester, all of which welcomed back eager spectators on Monday, if one racecourse is synonymous with the opening day of the week, it's Windsor.

Monday nights are Windsor nights, but for the paying public that had not been true since August 2019. Now they are back, it's as though a chunk of normality has returned. Pleased to report, this felt a far more normal racing experience than some might have imagined.
