Ascot has promised Frankie Dettori the most brilliant of farewells at his "spiritual home" if he decides to have his final domestic rides on Qipco British Champions Day, with plans already being made to centre the day around the legendary jockey.

Dettori, 52, revealed on Saturday he would retire at the end of next season, with his riding career to conclude at the Breeders' Cup in November. Where exactly his 36-year career in Britain will finish remains to be seen, but Ascot hopes he will bow out there on October 21.

The jockey has an unrivalled association with the racecourse. His first Group 1 winner came aboard Markofdistinction in 1990 and six years later he made sporting history with his Magnificent Seven.
