Appleby eyes biggest win as rapid improver bids for six in a row

Godolphin have taken a £30,000 punt on Hawkbill being able to complete an unchecked climb to the summit and deliver trainer Charlie Appleby his biggest victory today.

A year after recording his first success in an all-weather maiden at Lingfield, Hawkbill lines up in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse on a five-race unbeaten streak having been supplemented on Monday.

He captured the Group 3 Tercentenary Stakes at Ascot 16 days ago and, with conditions again on the soft side, takes another leap into the unknown.
