Champion jump jockey Brian Hughes has welcomed the BHA's decision to look again at its controversial whip proposals and admitted the new regime is "going to take a bit of getting used to".

After an enforced break, with National Hunt racing frozen off since Friday of last week, he is itching to resume his bid to reach 200 winners for the second season in a row. But he echoed other riders' concerns about new rules that limit whip use to the backhand position and allow for disqualification for serious breaches, which led the BHA to announce on Friday it would "continue dialogue to explore options that address the concerns being raised".

Hughes said on Saturday: "I believe they're looking into it again and there has to be a bit of give and take on all sides. I think they've taken on board what jockeys have been saying and they do listen – we all have to try to work together."
