Gay Kelleway set to saddle first post-Brexit British runner in France

George Baker and Gay Kelleway are two of the biggest Francophiles among trainers in Britain, and they have taken different approaches to reach the same objective – to avoid becoming entangled in the additional costs and paperwork which will be involved from January 1 after the conclusion of Brexit.

Trainers had been advised not to run their horses in Europe in early January, but Kelleway will be the first British trainer to saddle a runner on the continent after the end of the transition period when Capla Knight runs in the Prix de Hieville at Deauville on Saturday.

"I sent two over to Chantilly on Wednesday," she said. "Capla Knight runs at Deauville on Saturday because I had to run him in a race to get him in down at Cagnes.
