Jockeys to face no further action after investigation into rape allegation
After a 14-month probe the Crown Prosecution Service has notified Brendan Powell jnr, Richard Condon and Sean Mooney they are no longer under investigation by Wiltshire Police for the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman last November.
A statement from two of the jockeys read: "Brendan Powell and Richard Condon were arrested last year in relation to an allegation of a serious nature.
"Having maintained their innocence throughout, they are obviously pleased to have received confirmation recently from the Crown Prosecution Service that there will be no further action relating to the allegation."
Mooney confirmed separately that he, too, faced no further action.
Powell jnr, Condon and Mooney were arrested last year and allowed to continue riding by the BHA while on bail.
'Glad it's over'
Powell jnr, who understands an investigation had to take place after the allegation was made but remains disappointed his name was published, said: "I'm very grateful to all the owners and trainers who have carried on supporting me and I hope now I can kick on and continue my riding career as it has always been my goal from a young age.
"The best thing I did was keep riding, as it took my mind off everything else for a bit."
His father, Grand National-winning jockey Brendan Powell, said: "His whole family stood behind him from the word go. It's been hanging over his head for 13 months, but we're glad it's over so he can get on with his life and doing what he does best, which is riding horses."
