Ascot and the Tote have expressed their delight at the performance of the first World Pool at Royal Ascot last week, which has been described as a "seminal moment" for pool betting.

Money invested into all the pools run at the royal meeting totalled £92 million compared to £17m last year, an increase of 440 per cent fuelled by the involvement of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Turnover on course was also up by 3.2 per cent.
