Ayr has secured a new sponsor for its flagship Flat race, the Ayr Gold Cup, after renewing its ties with the QTS Group.

The leading rail contractor takes over from William Hill, who sponsored the prestigious sprint handicap between 2009 and 2019, in a move that can be viewed as a major fillip for Ayr in these times of deep financial uncertainty.

The news comes hot on the heels of the shock revelation that Epsom is looking for a new sponsor for the Derby after parting company early with Investec.
