Bookies weigh up O'Brien's chances of making it a record 2016

Aidan O'Brien: eyeing even more Group 1 success before 2016 is over

In the wake of his unique 1-2-3 in Sunday's Arc, bookmakers are speculating as to whether Aidan O'Brien can further cement his place in the history books by bagging a record number of Group and Grade 1 wins in a calendar year.

The late US trainer, Bobby Frankel, set the standard in 2003 with 25 top-flight winners, but following the victories of Found at Chantilly and Alice Springs in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket over the weekend, O'Brien has the record in his sights.

The master of Ballydoyle has claimed 19 Group or Grade 1 prizes in 2016 – 18 on the Flat and one over jumps via Ivanovich Gorbatov in the Triumph Hurdle. His previous best score was 24 in 2001, which also included one over jumps.
