BHA to fast-track minor cases in bid to improve efficiency
A "fast track" procedure to deal with lower-level rule breaches was implemented by the BHA on Monday in an attempt to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
A recommendation of last year's integrity review, the new approach means suitable cases will be concluded administratively by an independent disciplinary panel without the need for an oral hearing.
Each case will be judged on an individual basis but such examples might include a failure to notify gelding operations and breaches concerning vaccination, passport and identity checks.
The protocol has begun a phased implementation, with the results of the first three cases released by the BHA on Monday.
Tim Naylor, head of regulation at the BHA, said: "As a responsible and progressive regulator, the BHA is committed to upholding the integrity and reputation of the sport and will continue to develop its processes and policies to ensure this.
"The protocol announced today will free up considerable resource for the BHA and the independent judicial panel as well as, most importantly, creating a far swifter and easier process for our stakeholders in applicable cases."
