Three horses with a chance in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

All the talk before the Dublin Racing Festival last month was about the then unbeaten Facile Vega, last year’s Weatherbys Champion Bumper winner who made it a perfect six from six under rules when landing the Grade 1 Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown at Christmas.

However, a poor performance at the DRF, where he trailed home last of five finishers behind the reopposing Il Etait Temps, left many questioning whether Willie Mullins’ charge was as unbeatable as his short price had previously suggested.

Il Etait Temps reversed the form of his four-length second at Christmas behind Facile Vega at the DRF with an emphatic victory, with the form through Irish Point suggesting he’s got a very good chance against the unbeaten Marine Nationale.

Irish Point was 16 and a quarter lengths behind Il Etait Temps, but finished just a head behind the fast-finishing Marine Nationale in the Grade 1 Royal Bond in December.

However, the soft ground wouldn’t have been the ideal conditions for Marine Nationale, whose previous three victories had been achieved on good ground, and he will surely put more distance between them come Cheltenham.
