There are plenty in with chances and Gerri Colombe heads the market after winning back-to-back Grade 1s, taking his unbeaten record to a perfect seven under rules.

Trained by Gordon Elliott, Gerri Colombe wasn’t highly tried as a novice hurdler, winning a 2m4f maiden at Down Royal before taking a 2m7f Thurles novice.

He comfortably landed a beginners’ chase after returning from a 296-day break before going on to triumph at the top-level, winning the Faugheen and Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase, both at shorter trips than he will face here.

The Real Whacker, placed in a Grade 2 as a novice hurdler, has shown improvement for the switch to chasing, winning both his starts over fences since rejoining Patrick Neville from Ann Duffield.

He jumped really well when making all in The Dipper at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day and connections haven’t ruled out going to the Gold Cup with him yet.

Thyme Hill bounced back from a disappointing effort in the John Francome Novices’ Chase at Newbury in emphatic fashion when cruising past McFabulous to win by 15 lengths in the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase.

He’s a top-class horse with a good record at the Cheltenham Festival, having placed in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper and last year’s Stayers’ Hurdle, as well as being squeezed out into fourth, beaten just over a length, in a thrilling finish to the 2020 Albert Bartlett.
