Barney Roy joins list of stallion nominations to be auctioned for charity

Darley newcomer Barney Roy has had his name added to the list of stallion nominations due to be auctioned at Tattersalls on Sunday in aid of the Retraining of Racehorses charity.

The St James's Palace Stakes winner was retired from racing this month and will join the likes of Dubawi and Golden Horn at Dalham Hall in Newmarket, where he will stand for a covering fee of £10,000.

Barney Roy's addition brings the list of nominations to be auctioned to 13, with the values ranging from £5,000 to £55,000. Another St James's Palace winner, Kingman, heads the offering, with 2,000 Guineas hero Gleneagles also available.

Five Cheveley Park nominations, to Garswood, Twilight Son, Lethal Force, Mayson and Dutch Art will be auctioned alongside ones for Adaay, Bobby’s Kitten, Hot Streak, Ivawood, Mukhadram and Time Test.

The auction will take place at Tattersalls on Sunday evening at 6.15, with Nick Luck compering and Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony doing the selling following a champagne reception.

"We are incredibly grateful to the stud farms who have shown their support for the charity by donating nominations to stallions," said RoR chief executive Di Arbuthnot. "As a result of their generosity, the range of stallions on offer means there is something of interest for all breeders.

"Special thanks must go to Edmond Mahony and the board of Tattersalls for their support and for hosting the event. There is increasing awareness among the auction houses and breeders of the work RoR does in providing fulfilling second careers for thoroughbreds when their racing days are over. As we all know, not every horse gets to retire to stud."
