Glorious Goodwood is often compared to an upmarket summer garden party, with racegoers dressed snappily in suits, blazers and pretty summer dresses while Panamas are sprinkled around the course and picnickers take up residence on Trundle Hill.

However, this quintessentially British summer scene was not always in evidence at this year’s meeting, with the desire for some punters to get fired up on champagne, Pimms and lager creating a whole different vibe in parts of the course.

Outspoken bookmaker Geoff Banks was among those to come face to face with some of the more loutish behaviour and he has implored courses to do more to stop becoming booze-fuelled arenas.
