Circus Maximus, the St James's Palace Stakes winner, is in the mix to go back up in trip in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown next Saturday.

After finishing sixth in the Derby at Epsom, Circus Maximus was supplemented for the drop to a mile at Royal Ascot where, blinkered for the first time, he gave trainer Aidan O'Brien an eighth win in the St James's Palace.

The three-year-old may well be joined at Sandown by stablemate Magical, who finished second to Crystal Ocean in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at the royal meeting.

O'Brien said on Saturday: "Circus Maximus, who came out of his Ascot race well, and Magical are the two we are looking at for the Eclipse. Whether both of them will run won't be decided until the middle of the week."

Magical, a dual Group 1 winner, was three from three this season until losing out at Royal Ascot. Should she miss Saturday's race and another clash with Enable, to whom she finished second in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Churchill Downs last year, then the daughter of Galileo could be given a mid-season break before being aimed at an autumn campaign.

O'Brien has sent out five winners of the Eclipse with So You Think his most recent scorer in 2011. He previously won the race with Giant's Causeway (2000), Hawk Wing (2002), Oratorio (2005) and Mount Nelson (2008).

Enable heads the betting for next weekend's big Group 1, having not run since winning in the US last year. The John Gosden-trained mare is a best-priced 15-8, with Magical and Circus Maximus both 7-1 shots.
