German Derby result confirmed

The result of the German Derby has been confirmed after a five-and-a-half-hour appeal hearing in Cologne.

Isfahan won the July 10 Classic by a head from Savoir Vivre, with Dschingis Secret a neck away in third. The jockeys on the first two were both fined for whip use, as they were adjudged to have struck their mounts nine times. Five is the maximum allowed in Germany.

The owner of Dschingis Secret, Horst Pudwill, a German businessman based in Hong Kong, objected to the winner, alleging connections had instructed their jockey to hit the horse as often as necessary and that they would cover the costs, but this was overruled by local stewards.
