Baaeed heads race to be crowned Cartier Horse Of The Year after Sussex win
Baaeed is top of the Cartier Horse Of The Year standings after maintaining his unbeaten record with a decisive success in the Qatar Sussex Stakes.
The Shadwell-owned four-year-old leads on 128 points and is 40 clear of Goodwood Cup winner Kyprios, State Of Rest and Vadeni, who heads the Three-Year-Old Colt category.
The William Haggas-trained Baaeed extended his winning sequence to nine in the Sussex and landed his fifth Group 1 contest in a row.
Baaeed will no doubt look to make it a perfect ten and extend his lead at the top of the Cartier standings when he runs in the Juddmonte International at York on August 17.
He also heads the Cartier Older Horse division. Pyledriver (64) is up into third in the category after his brilliant display in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
Nashwa (76) shares the lead in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly category with Oaks winner Tuesday. After winning the Group 1 Prix de Diane in June, Imad Alsagar's filly added another top-level success to her CV at Goodwood when winning the Nassau Stakes.
There has been no movement in the Cartier Sprinter division with Naval Crown (48) remaining in the lead and July Cup winner Alcohol Free in second (32).
Kyprios (88) extended his lead over Stradivarius (44) at the top of the Cartier Stayer standings after a neck defeat of Bjorn Nielsen's eight-year-old in the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup. The pair could clash again in the Lonsdale Cup on August 19 at York, where Stradivarius is unbeaten in six starts.
