Arctic Soul and Tattersall pick of Badminton in seventh

Arctic Soul, partnered by Gemma Tattersall, fared the best of the six former racehorses competing at last weekend's Badminton Horse Trials with a seventh-placed overall finish behind champions Andrew Nicholson and Nereo.

The pair had competed at last year's three-day event where they finished in third spot.

Tattersall was delighted with this year's result and said: "He has really taken to eventing and has become a real superstar and performer at the highest level. He's certainly a machine and a talent who is also incredibly tough and resilient, which is what we need for our sport.

"Being an ex-racehorse helps, especially in the cross-country phase which he's extremely natural at. Arctic Soul is really the first ex-racehorse that I've had and they don't have to be superstars in racing to do things afterwards as there's so many things they can do now."

As the highest-placed racehorse to finish at Badminton, Arctic Soul receives a £1,000 cash prize offered by Retraining of Racehorses.

Donner and US rider Lynn Smansky ended the contest in 22nd, while Galley Light and Ben Way finished 42nd overall.

Simply Priceless and Elisa Wallace and Balladeer Durban Hills and Sarah Parkas were eliminated on the cross-country course on Saturday. Kaapachino and Jesse Campbell retired on the same stage.
