'This is a start' - Arc to boost under-fire Doncaster prize-money

The Lincoln Handicap will be worth £150,000 next year after its purse was boosted by 50 per cent as part of a significant cash injection at several key meetings at Doncaster.

The prize-money offered at the course was last week criticised by champion trainer John Gosden, who said £8,000 to the winning owner for success in a handicap on a Group 1 day at a Group 1 track was "taking the mickey".

The increases, announced by Doncaster's owners Arena Racing Company and covering races in the first three months of 2023, were planned before Gosden hit out but were not public knowledge.
