Coral-Eclipse winner Hawkbill could bid for a second Group 1 victory this month after it was revealed yesterday that the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes is one of the big-race options being given serious consideration.

The Qipco-backed Ascot midsummer showpiece comes three weeks after the Eclipse, in which Hawkbill denied The Gurkha on Saturday by half a length, but while the timing is not ideal it is the only one of Hawkbill's nominated options over a mile and a half – a trip at which his trainer Charlie Appleby believes even more improvement could be forthcoming from the progressive three-year-old.

John Ferguson, Godolphin's chief executive and racing manager, said yesterday: "These are exciting times. Sheikh Mohammed and the team will discuss the options, and there are plenty of them."
