Nottingham forced to cancel Wednesday card due to waterlogging
The start of Nottingham's Flat season will have to wait until later this month as Wednesday's scheduled opening card was cancelled on Tuesday due to waterlogging.
An inspection was planned for 9am on Tuesday, but the decision to call the meeting off was taken earlier following overnight rain.
The going was described as heavy before 12 millimetres of rain fell, leaving the track waterlogged.
Clerk of the course Jane Hedley said: "It was a no-brainer. We could have taken two or three millimetres but 12 millimetres was a different ball game and we're completely saturated."
Southwell's Tuesday card was also lost to waterlogging, and the chances of Leicester's Friday card passing an inspection at 7.45am appear slim.
"It's not looking great," clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson said. "We had 16 millimetres overnight and things were getting a bit better but this has knocked us back big time."
The track is now waterlogged in places, and Stevenson added: "The main issue we've been having is the National Hunt course crossings, they're not getting the chance to recover."
