'It would be nice to go for the Guineas next year' - Method earns Classic quotes
Method was introduced into next year’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas market at 25-1 with Paddy Power and Betfair Sportsbook after routing the field in the bet365 Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury.
The Martyn Meade-trained colt powered to a two-and-a-quarter length triumph over long-time leader Mighty Gurkha under Oisin Murphy.
Method, owned by Manton Park Racing, maintained his unbeaten record after a similarly impressive debut success at Doncaster.
Meade said: "I think he's very good on that showing. It was a hands and heels ride and the horses finished in the right order. He lived up to every expectation. I was really pleased with him.
“He's on an upward trajectory so maybe we could go for the Richmond or maybe to France [for the Prix Morny].
"I would have thought we would look at the Dewhurst or Middle Park at the end of the year. I think he'll get a mile and it would be nice to go for the Guineas next year."
Paddy Power also offered 16-1 about Method landing the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot next year.
Top sprinters Limato and Tasleet are among previous winners of the Listed event.
'It can't be any better' – Eagles By Day lands Silver Cup for Leeds fan Parkin
Eagles By Day capped a memorable 24 hours for Clipper Logistics owner Steve Parkin by landing the John Smith’s Silver Cup at York on his first start for David O’Meara.
The Group 3 success came after Parkin watched his beloved Leeds United, whose shirts feature the Clipper Logistics logo, seal a long-awaited promotion to the Premier League after Huddersfield’s victory over West Bromwich Albion on Friday evening.
Shortly after Eagles By Day's win, Leeds United were crowned champions after Brentford lost to Stoke City.
Parkin said: "I've not slept all night. I watched the Huddersfield game at home and I've been crying, I've been a Leeds supporter for 50-odd years and I've seen the highs and lows of the football club.
"I've had a lot of heartache in the last 50-odd years, I can assure you, but last night was worth it all. We're back in the Premier League and I've had a nice win there, it can't be any better."
Eagles By Day finished third to Japan in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot last year but joined O’Meara from Michael Bell after a below-par return in the Hardwicke Stakes.
The four-year-old bounced right back to form on the Knavesmire, staying on best to beat the doughty Communique by half a length, with O'Meara eyeing the Lonsdale Cup or Ebor back at York.
O'Meara said: "He showed a lot of class there today, I was delighted for Steve who puts so much in to the game. This horse will stay as far as you like, he could be a proper Cup horse and he might run in the Lonsdale Cup or the Ebor next."
Eagles By Day was the first of two big-race winners for Danny Tudhope, who later struck on Moss Gill in a tight finish to the Listed John Smith's City Walls Stakes.
Jamie Spencer finished third on Universal Order on his first ride back after breaking his hip in a freak accident on the gallops in Newmarket in April.
Gosden's Guru shines in fine Newbury novice
Lady Bamford’s homebred Guru quickened impressively to deny fellow debutant Maximal in a Newbury novice with a fine recent honour roll.
The John Gosden-trained juvenile finished with a flourish under Adam Kirby to prevail by a nose in a race littered with several well-bred newcomers.
Guru is a son of Kingman, who won the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at the Berkshire track in 2014 before striking four times at the top level in his three-year-old campaign.
Recent winners of this two-year-old contest include Dante second Mildenberger, Prix des Chenes scorer Stage Magic and Group 3-placed Momkin.
Thady Gosden, assistant to father John Gosden, said: "We've always liked him at home where he's always shown some ability. He was a little green through the race and a little nervous but he did everything Adam asked him.
"He might be one to treat gently and take to another novice rather than going into stiffer company straight away. It looked like a hot enough race and hopefully he comes on from it."
Legend Of Dubai, the first foal of Prix de l’Opera winner Speedy Boarding, finished three lengths back in third and made a promising debut.
'She's a very good filly'
The 6f fillies' maiden at Newbury went the way of the Richard Hannon-trained Fly Miss Helen, with trainer Richard Hannon eyeing some big prizes with the debutante scorer.
Hannon said: "I'm thinking the Moyglare with her. I'm not in any mad rush and she's a filly for next year but she'll run somewhere before. Something like the Sweet Solera or the Prestige perhaps but she's a very good filly."
