Musselburgh's card on Monday has been cancelled due to frozen ground following a second morning inspection at the Scottish track.

The cancellation is the second British card to fall foul of the cold weather in as many days after frost put paid to Carlisle's meeting on Sunday.

Last Friday's card at Leicester was also called off owing to a waterlogged track.

The cancellation leaves Plumpton, which kicks off at 12.30, to host the afternoon action, while the first race at Wolverhampton's all-weather meeting is at 3.45.

On Sunday, Musselburgh clerk of the course Harriet Graham described the chances of racing going ahead as "60:40" but had a more positive outlook early on Monday morning when saying she was "tentatively hopeful".

However, conditions throughout the morning worsened, preventing the necessary thawing of the ground, and Graham said: "We just did not see the improvement we needed to this morning.

"Temperatures got up to around 6C this morning but have actually now dropped again to 4.8C – that obviously slowed the whole process down again.

"We had some rain and it was beginning to look a little more hopeful, but with the temperature change and only a few hours until racing, it's just not shifting quick enough."

Musselburgh's next meeting is scheduled for December 9.
