Andrea Atzeni to miss Guineas meeting after picking up six-day ban
Andrea Atzeni will miss the Guineas meeting at Newmarket next month after being given a six-day ban at the course on Thursday.
The 28-year-old jockey was suspended after the stewards deemed him guilty of using his whip in the wrong place on Beringer, who won the mile handicap to give the rider his third of four winners on the Rowley Mile this week.
Qabala, who jumped to the head of the 1,000 Guineas market after winning the Nell Gwyn under David Egan, was a possible mount for Atzeni.
Atzeni said: "I don't want to say too much but I had planned to ride in the 1,000 Guineas and also [Wood Ditton winner] UAE Jewel could have turned up again at the Guineas meeting."
The rider said he was considering appealing against the ban, which runs from May 2-7 inclusive.
