Chris Meehan: could be back in the saddle by the end of the month

Jockey Chris Meehan, whose leg was broken when an ambulance coming to his aid ran over it, has had his cast removed and could be back riding out in a few weeks' time.

Meehan's remarkable story, which came near the end of a stint riding in Italy this summer, gained attention around the world, with the rider praised for his stoicism and good humour.

During a hurdle race at Merano last month, Meehan fell from his mount and was subsequently kicked in the face, leaving an injury that required 27 stitches in his jaw.
