The decision by Entain's board to turn down an $11 billion offer from US casino giant MGM Resorts International earlier this year looks to have been good business judged by events this week.

The parent company of Ladbrokes, Coral and a number of other betting and gaming brands around the world is now considering a bid of $22.4bn from DraftKings, one of the main players in sports betting and fantasy sports in the US.

However, what would appear to be a simple decision has its complications and developments will be watched closely by the gambling industry – and should also be catching the attention of British racing's leaders.
