Aidan O'Brien cut for trainers' crown as he closes gap on John Gosden

John Gosden could hardly have asked for a better Ebor meeting at York with successes in the Great Voltigeur, Yorkshire Oaks and Lonsdale Cup, but his lead in the title race was cut to just £159,339 by Aidan O'Brien courtesy of Japan's International Stakes win and bookmakers Coral reacted by trimming the challenger to 11-10 (from 11-8).

O’Brien – a perennial champion in Ireland and a six-time table-topper in Britain – added more than £600,000 to his total for winning the Group 1, with Japan earning more than Logician, Enable and Stradivarius combined. Their trainer John Gosden remains Coral’s 4-6 favourite for a fourth title.
