Aidan O'Brien paid remarkable tribute to his star two-year-old Auguste Rodin on Sunday by describing him as "probably the most exciting horse we've ever had."

Saturday's Vertem Futurity winner is now hot favourite for the Derby after his impressive success at Doncaster, offered at a best-priced 4-1 and quoted as short as 5-2 in places. Yet his odds could contract even further after such praise from a man who has trained a host of top-notch horses at Ballydoyle since 1996 and won a record 41 British Classics.

Asked about Auguste Rodin 24 hours after his Vertem win, O'Brien said: "The horse yesterday is probably the most exciting we've ever had, to do what he's been doing."
