Connections of A Plus Tard were on Sunday still coming to terms with the dazzle he displayed when producing the standout moment of the jumps season in Saturday's Betfair Chase at Haydock, but hinted their star could get even better.

That would be a worry for anyone associated with a rival top three-mile chaser given the way A Plus Tard eased to a 22-length victory from the talented Royale Pagaille in the Betfair Chase.

It was a performance that forced bookmakers to slash his odds for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and he is now the general 7-2 favourite for the race he finished second in to his Henry de Bromhead-trained stablemate Minella Indo in March.
