A giant of the weighing room and a fine role model for all young jockeys
Richard Johnson was a statistical marvel, ranking second in the all-time list of winningmost jump jockeys with a total of 3,819 victories in Britain and Ireland.
Champion four times and with nearly all the top prizes to his credit including Cheltenham's big four of the Gold Cup (two), Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and Stayers' Hurdle, he had a career that a young rider can only dream of emulating.
When Peter Scudamore (1,692) and Richard Dunwoody (1,874) in turn retired as the winningmost jump jockey of all time, it would have been preposterous to suggest that their career totals would soon be more than doubled, but Sir Anthony McCoy and Johnson have done just that.
