Qipco British Champions Day takes place at Ascot on Saturday, with more prize-money on offer at the Berkshire track than on any other raceday in Britain.

The lucrative six-race card will have significant implications on this year's trainers' title, with Ladbrokes making William Haggas odds-on to win his first trainers' championship, while Paddy Power have Charlie Appleby as favourite to retain his crown as champion trainer.

The £4.1 million card will make it a pivotal day for the trainers, but there will be no anxious wait for William Buick as he will be presented with his champion jockey trophy for the first time, having ridden more than 150 winners this season.

The races

1.25: Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup(Group 2, 2m)

Number of entries: 14

Last year's winner: Trueshan

Ante-post favourite:Trueshan (6-4)

Kyprios has been one of the stars of the season for Aidan O'Brien and, although the staying sensation was taken out at the five-day declaration stage on Monday, Group 1 wins in the Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup, Irish St Leger and a demolition job in the Prix du Cadran at the start of the month can be considered more than enough good work for the season.

The absence of Kyprios and the retired Stradivarius, who won this Group 2 contest in 2018, leaves Trueshan leading the ante-post market as he bids to become the first horse since Further Flight in the 1990s to win the race in three consecutive years.

Alan King's Northumberland Plate winner will have to reverse the form with his Doncaster Cup conqueror Coltrane if he is to complete the hat-trick, although the latter has already been beaten by Quickthorn in the Lonsdale Cup this season. The potential presence of St Leger and Ebor heroes Eldar Eldarov and Trawlerman could add plenty to an intriguing opener.

2.00: Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes(Group 1, 6f)

Number of entries: 19

Last year's winner: Creative Force

Ante-post favourite:Creative Force (5-2)

The first of four top-level contests on Champions Day involves some popular sprinters including dual Wokingham winner Rohaan, who struck over course and distance last time out.

Creative Force has not entered the winner's enclosure since taking this event last year but could lay down a huge statement of intent by Appleby and Buick early on the card.

Creative Force's fellow Godolphin-owned stablemate Naval Crown will attempt to add to his Platinum Jubilee win, with Commonwealth Cup scorer Perfect Power also potentially attempting to follow up a Royal Ascot success.

2.40: Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes(Group 1, 1m4f)

Number of entries: 17

Last year's winner: Eshaada

Ante-post favourite:Emily Upjohn (3-1)

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori have taken this race for fillies and mares twice in the last six years with Journey (2016) and Star Catcher (2019) and could add to that haul with Emily Upjohn.

The three-year-old flopped in the King George at this track when last seen, but the Musidora winner and Oaks runner-up has a strong chance of a breakthrough Group 1 success if bouncing back to her best form.

Eternal Pearl, who is chasing a five-timer, could step up in grade for her first Group 1 for Appleby and Buick.

3.20: Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored By Qipco)(Group 1, 1m)

Number of entries: 10

Last year's winner: Baaeed

Ante-post favourite:Inspiral (4-5)

Baaeed edged out Palace Pier in a thrilling running of this mile Group 1 worth £1.1 million last year. Although John and Thady Gosden were on the wrong side of a neck defeat on that occasion, they hold a strong chance of making amends with Inspiral.

The Cheveley Park-owned filly bounced back in superb style from the first defeat of her career in the Falmouth Stakes when landing the Prix Jacques le Marois on what was her first start outside her own sex and age group.

A win on Inspiral in the Coronation Stakes was the highlight of a difficult Royal Ascot for Frankie Dettori and the pair could enjoy more joy in Berkshire. The supplemented Jadoomi is an interesting alternative.

4.00: Qipco Champion Stakes(Group 1, 1m2f)

Number of entries: 10

Last year's winner: Sealiway

Ante-post favourite:Baaeed (1-4)

With connections expressing their relief that Baaeed missed a rain-soaked Longchamp in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the stage is set for the four-year-old Shadwell-owned colt to end his career in style in the feature £1.3 million event of the day.

Baaeed bids to extend his unbeaten run to 11 and provide Haggas with a sizeable chunk of prize-money towards his championship bid. Baaeed has already won twice at Ascot, namely the preceding race on this card 12 months ago and this year's Queen Anne Stakes, and will be long odds-on for the final start before being retired to stud.

Appleby and Buick have a talented new challenger to Baaeed's flawless record in the form of last season's Derby winner Adayar.

4.40: Balmoral Handicap

Number of entries: 51

Last year's winner: Aldaary

Ante-post favourite:Sweet Believer (10-1)

The sole handicap of the day, the Balmoral, provides punters the opportunity to solve a potentially trickier betting puzzle than the high-quality Group action that precedes the finale.

A maximum 20-runner field line up for the mile event on the straight course with course-and-distance winners Atrium, Orbaan, Perotto, Accidental Agent, Raising Sand and 2019 winner Escobar among the 51 entries on Monday.
