2,000 Guineas to stay on May 6 despite clash with King's coronation

The Qipco 2,000 Guineas will not be moved to another day to avoid a clash with the coronation of King Charles, with Newmarket intending to make the meeting a celebration of "the close links between racing and the royal family".

The government has told elite sports there is no need for any cancellations, with Buckingham Palace reportedly determined to make May 6 a day of national celebration.

It was announced last week that the final day of the Championship, League One and League Two football seasons would be moved to avoid a clash. This is thought to be due to the police resources needed in London meaning not all matches would be able to be played. Some Premier League games could be rescheduled for the same reason.
