This 82-rated two-year-old faced a stiff task in this 6½f sales race and was beaten 12 lengths. However, you can draw a line through this effort as he was routinely denied a clear run and seemed to finish the race with petrol left in the tank. Had he not found trouble it’s tricky to judge where he would have finished. It’s unlikely he would have won, but conceivably he would have have been in the first six. A horse to note in a novice stakes or nursery next time out.

Another Eclipse
David Simcock

2nd, Doncaster, September 14
The four runners in this 1m2f handicap were so closely matched on paper that if you ran this race a hundred times you would possibly get a different outcome each time. With leader Al Neksh setting a slow pace, this developed into a dash to the finish from three out. Another Eclipse was in the rear when the leader quickened so his rivals had a positional advantage. He got better the further he went and was eating into the winner’s advantage at the line. Curiously, all six of his races this year were in fields of eight or fewer runners, but he seems to be crying out for a strongly run 1m2f and may stay further.

Chai Chai
Andrew Balding

Won, Chester, September 15
This juvenile was given an extremely confident ride by David Probert, who steered Chai Chai around the field in this nursery. The Zoffany colt evidently relished the soft ground and looks capable of following up off his revised mark.
