'I was expecting him to be half the price' - Owen puts up two Saturday tips

Arecibo
1.50 Sandown
1pt each-way

This year's Coral Charge has a very compact market and as a result the biggest prices on the board are only just in double digits. Arecibo is not an 'outsider' price at 10-1, but in the context of this race he is overpriced.

Trained by Robert Cowell, he finished second in this race 12 months ago, headed in the final strides of a stronger event than this.

Subsequently, he has finished second in a pair of Group 2s, latterly at Haydock two starts ago behind King's Lynn in the Temple Stakes.

He ran better than the bare result when down the field in the King's Stand last time and was an eyecatcher in the way he travelled. I was expecting him to be half the price, so despite not being a 'conventional' outsider he has to be included.

Vindolanda
3.15 Haydock
1pt each-way

Given the recent form of William Haggas's string, Gaassee's price is no real surprise. He takes up a huge share of the market, and with five places on offer Vindolanda is far too big a price for Charlie Hills.

She is now a six-year-old but shaped pleasingly on her return at Goodwood in May, staying on powerfully late after a tardy start from the gates.

All of her wins have come with some variation of soft in the description, including a pair of course victories, and she stays further than this too. The race should play out to suit and the recent form of the stable seals the deal.
