Middle Park marks 40th anniversary of Khalid Abdullah's first Group 1 winner

Just months after Charming Native became Prince Khalid Abdullah’s first winner at Windsor in May 1979, the owner was celebrating his first Group 1 winner in Known Fact, one of a handful of yearlings secured by Humphrey Cottrill at the previous year’s Keeneland yearling sale.

Moreover in Known Fact, Abdullah had his first stallion prospect. Victories in the 2,000 Guineas - on the disqualification of Nureyev - Sussex and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes the following year further enhanced his appeal, and without feeling the need to syndicate him Abdullah retired his In Reality colt to stud in Britain and proceeded to breed Warning out of his third crop.

By the time Warning retired to stud in 1990, Banstead Manor Stud was firmly established as a Newmarket stallion farm and it has rarely been out of the limelight since, as the base of an invariably select but powerful roster.
