Gosden to unleash Golden Horn half-brother to Royal Ascot heroine Aljazzi

The three-year-old debuts at Wolverhampton on Thursday

John Gosden is certainly not averse to running well-bred youngsters on the all-weather and he will saddle Imad Al Sagar's Liverpool Knight in the extended mile maiden at Wolverhampton on Thursday.

The three-year-old colt is by the 2015 Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn, who currently stands at Dalham Hall Stud for £20,000, and was a 70,000gns purchase from Tattersalls December Foal Sale when consigned by New England Stud.

Notably, he is a half-brother to two stakes winners, including the 2018 Duke of Cambridge heroine Aljazzi.

Aljazzi, a homebred of Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar, won five of her 16 starts and also landed the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown in 2017. The daughter of Shamardal additionally struck in two Listed events and was second in the 2017 Duke of Cambridge to Group 1 victress Qemah.

Trained by Marco Botti, Aljazzi's career highlight came when defeating the likes of Urban Fox and Hydrangea at Royal Ascot three years ago.

The seven-year-old was subsequently sold for a record-breaking 1,000,000gns at the Tattersalls Horses-in-Training Sale to Newsells Park Stud in 2018. She produced a filly by Galileo last year and is currently carrying to Dubawi.

Liverpool Knight is also a half-brother to Majestic Noor, a Listed-winning daughter of Frankel. The four-year-old, who won the John Musker Fillies' Stakes at Yarmouth last September, has won three of her seven starts to date.

The trio's dam, Nouriya, is a dual stakes-winning daughter of Danehill Dancer and is herself related to the stakes-placed pair Yuften and Lady Nouf.

Nouriya's dam, Majestic Sakeena, is an unrated King's Best half-sister to the Listed-winning juvenile Shy Lady, the dam of St James's Palace Stakes hero Zafeen and Prix du Calvados winner Ya Hajar.

Among Liverpool Knight's 11 rivals are the once-raced Anthony Oppenheimer-owned Alto Volante, a half-brother to Group 3 scorer Namibian and the stakes-placed Domino Darling, and Mercurius Power, a 350,000gns purchase from Tattersalls Book 1 and an Awtaad half-brother to German Group 2 victor Donnerschlag.
