Alpha Centauri upholds family honour in Prix Jacques le Marois
Pasadoble's descendants feature prominently in list of past winners
Alpha Centauri recorded a fabulous fourth Group 1 win in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Sunday and in so doing became the latest descendant of Pasadoble to win the mile contest.
The race, sponsored by Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard, has previously been won by Alpha Centauri's granddam East Of The Moon (1994), third dam Miesque (1987, '88), a daughter of Pasadoble, and Six Perfections (2003), who is out of a half-sister to Miesque.
A number of stallions bred and raced by the Niarchos family also sired previous winners of the race - Exit To Nowhere, Miesque's Son and Nureyev among them.
Alpha Centauri is a daughter of Mastercraftsman, whose latest crop of three-year-olds are his most expensively bred to date at a €35,000 fee, while his sire Danehill Dancer supplied the 2015 Jacques le Marois winner Esoterique.
Sunday's winner also shares her third dam with Karakontie - who struck twice at the highest level in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Breeders' Cup Mile in 2014.
Miesque, meanwhile, is the dam of three-time Group 1-winning miler and sire Kingmambo, who was third in the 1993 Jacques le Marois, and granddam of Rumplestiltskin, who landed the mile Prix Marcel Boussac as a juvenile.
Pasadoble also hit the headlines as the great-granddam of this year's Prix du Jockey Club scorer Study Of Man and International Stakes winner Yucatan, as well as the fourth dam of King Edward VII Stakes winner Old Persian.
Descendants of Pasadoble are likely to appear in the limelight for some years to come.
