Five fillies with standout pedigrees still entered for the Investec Oaks

Joe Canning assesses the remaining 60 candidates

After 60 fillies went forward to the next entry stage of the Investec Oaks on Wednesday, there remains the possibility of Enable's half-sister following in her footsteps or perhaps the 2013 Derby hero Ruler Of The World will sire the Oaks winner from his first crop.

Here, Joe Canning picks out five runners who could have an in-built advantage based on pedigree.

Pedigree Ruler Of The World-Senta's Dream (Danehill)
Breeder Whisperview Trading Ltd

Leading the ante-post market for the Epsom Classic is last year's Group 1 Fillies' Mile winner Iridessa. Like 2015 Oaks winner Qualify, she was bred by Aidan and Annemarie O'Brien's Whisperview Trading and owned by Chantal Regalado-Gonzalez. Joseph O'Brien's trains, making it a real family affair.

By the 2013 Derby winner Ruler Of The World, Iridessa is out of the unraced Danehill mare Senta's Dream, a daughter of the Bobby Frankel-trained Starine, who won two Grade 1s including the 2002 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Arlington. Despite Starine's quality on the track, she has only produced one winner since retiring to stud after her Breeders' Cup success.

Just Wonderful
Dansili-Wading (Montjeu)
Orpendale, Chelston & Wynatt

O'Brien snr will be looking to the likes of Just Wonderful to provide him with his eighth Oaks success. Beating a good field in last season's Group 2 Rockfel Stakes, Just Wonderful is out of Wading, another impressive winner of the Rockfel for Ballydoyle.

Wading is a full-sister to the 2014 Irish Oaks winner Bracelet and half-sister to the hardy Camelot filly Athena, who has the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes to her name. Dansili's full-brother Champs Elysees was the sire of last season's shock 1,000 Guineas winner Billesdon Brook.

Entitle
Dansili-Concentric (Sadler's Wells)
Juddmonte Farms Ltd

Also among the list of 60 entries is a half-sister to dual Arc heroine and 2017 Oaks winner Enable. Named Entitle, the John Gosden-trained winner of a Lingfield all-weather maiden in December is a Juddmonte homebred out of another in Concentric.

As well as Enable, the Sadler's Wells mare Concentric has produced the useful Contribution, whose best effort saw her placed in a Deauville Group 2 when trained by Andre Fabre.

Birdwood, a four-year-old Concentric mare by Oasis Dream, sold for 1,100,000gns at the Tattesalls 2017 December Mares Sale when purchased by Oliver St Lawrence.

Star Terms
Sea The Stars-Best Terms (Exceed And Excel)
W & R Barnett Ltd

Another notable name on the entry list is Star Terms. Bred and owned by Robert Barnett, who tasted Oaks success in 1982 with Time Charter, she will be looking to give her sire his second Oaks winner following Taghrooda's 2014 win.

A win for Richard Hannon's charge would simultaneously add to Urban Sea's remarkable influence on the British Classics. In last year's Oaks alone she was granddam to four of the first five finishers through the mighty Galileo.

Moreover, victory for the filly would add to Exceed And Excel's burgeoning record as a broodmare sire. Ballydoyle's 2,000 Guineas hope Ten Sovereigns is a recent example of the Kildangan resident's potency in this regard.

Manuela De Vega
Lope De Vega-Roscoff (Daylami)
Merriebelle Irish Farm Ltd

Manuela De Vega is another eye-catching entry. Her breeding makes her a full-sister to Merriebelle Farm's Listed scorer Isabel De Urbina and Italian Group 3 winner Hero Look.

Bought for €100,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale, Ralph Beckett's filly is also a half-sister to promising Auxerre, winner of last month's Lincoln Handicap.
