The Aga Khan's Zarkava produces a sister to Group 1-winning Zarak
Arc heroine has already made a name for herself as a mother and a racehorse
Few foals have received the scrutiny of those from the outstanding Zarkava - and even more so as she continues to form her own dynasty.
The Aga Khan’s brilliant, unbeaten racemare whose victories included the French Guineas, Oaks and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in 2008, gave birth to her tenth foal last Friday.
Although her first three failed to reach the racecourse, her fourth was the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner Zarak, now standing in his second season at the Aga’s Haras de Bonneval.
The filly foal is a full sister to Zarak, by Dubawi, with her mother having visited a handful of different stallions since her last meeting with the Darley sire.
Georges Rimaud, manager of the Aga Khan Studs in France, described her as "a lovely filly, full of quality and very elegant".
"She’s quite similar to her brother Zarak in that she has a deep girth and is quite compact," Rimaud said. "Zarak has his first foals on the ground this year and from the ones we’ve seen, he is producing nice strong foals that are full of class and quite stamped by himself and by Dubawi.”
Zarkava also has a three-year-old son by Invincible Spirit, Zarkallani, who finished a promising second on his debut at Saint-Cloud last week.
She has a two-year-old filly by Siyouni named Zaykava, in training with her former handler Alain de Royer-Dupre, and a yearling colt by Gilltown Stud’s Sea The Stars. She will visit Frankel this year, having produced the four-year-old Listed winner and Group 1-placed Zarkamiya by the Juddmonte titan already.
